A time of fun and discipleship
By: Marvin Daley (September 27, 2011)

King's Kids Camp 2011 was a time of fellowship, discipleship and fun for the campers and councellors alike. It was also a time of challenge as some of the children were new to the camping experience altogether.

The Camp was held for two weeks under the theme "The Joshua Generation, leading righteously, following righteousness". The idea of the theme came from the Book of Joshua with the primary focus being chapters 1-10. This shows Joshua, a young man who followed the specific instructions of God and in doing so, he led the Isrealites in the way of righteousness. This camp had a major goal in mind, to influence the youth of today, our Joshua Generation to lead righteously and seek to follow righteousness. Their generation is the one who will take over as the leaders of tomorrow when our generation is all gone.

One of our main focus was to get the children and teenagers to follow specific instruction as Joshua did and a few exercises were put in place to do that. This turned out to be quite a challenge as the children in some cases were not all too keen on following specific instructions at the beginning of the two weeks.

The first week was basically about familiarizing the children with the concept of who Joshua is and also how in following God's specific commands he was successful in accomplishing the huge task of leading the children of Isreal across the Jordan River and into the promised land. The children were shown how God caused the wall of Jericho to fall strictly because of Joshua's obedience. Another aspect dealt with was also how disobedience can cause problems not only for you but also for others around you.

This was shown through the story of Achon and how he moved the things from the fallen city of Jericho even though God told them not to touch them. Achon's punishment came not only to him but also to the Isrealites as when they went out to fight another town that was in their way, they lost. Achon was found out and the demise that he faced came not only to him but also to the rest of his household. THe second week was about putting into practice all the things they have learnt. They children went to different churches and shared ministry items they had learnt in the previous week throughout their ministry preparation time. They performed a couple of dances and skits that they learnt and practiced.

The children also had some fun times as they had their fun and games time in the afternoons, learned a new sport (new to them at least) called Ball Hockey which was taught to them by a team from Canada and had family time with their camp mothers and fathers. The camp was topped off with a Prayer Journey/beach trip and a wonderful banquet in which they get to dress up as different people groups. There was also a movie night which the cildren enjoyed very much.

All in all, King's Kids Summer Camp 2011 was a success.
